JOSH HARDER SAYS HE’S A PROFESSOR, BUT WE CAN’T FIND A CLASS HE TEACHES
Records Indicated He Only Taught One Night Class In Just One Semester
MODESTO, CA – On the campaign trail, Josh Harder touts himself as an educator. In debates with the Modesto Bee and Turlock Journal Harder consistently touted his experience in educating young people on how to work in business. His fliers state he’ll stand up for “his students”.
However it’s unclear what, if anything, Harder teaches at Modesto Junior College. According to Modesto Junior College’s website, Josh Harder is not a faculty member. MJC records indicate Harder taught one night-class in a previous Spring semester. A quick search on people.mjc.edu yields no result for anyone named Harder. Additionally, the page that formerly held his biography yields an error. It appears, Harder is living off the money he made as a venture capitalist.
“Harder obviously just moved here from the Bay Area to run for Congress,” said Jeff Denham. “One class doesn’t make you a part of this community.”
Harder’s business experience has been the subject of scrutiny due to his questionable investments. In 2015, As a venture capitalist Harder invested funds in Smashfly, a company that provides recruitment marketing automation software. The U.S. Department Of Labor later determined that a “significant” number of Smashfly workers were eligible for Trade Adjustment Assistance when they lost their jobs after training foreign counterparts.
In 2016, Harder invested in BrightHealth, a “consumer focused health plan offering simple and affordable health insurance.” The following year BrightHealth raised premiums on plan holders by 30%. Harder, and Bessemer Venture Partners, made money on the deal while Americans paid more.
Jeff Denham owns and operates Denham Plastics that recently opened a new distribution facility in Turlock, bringing local jobs to where he and his wife of 25 years own a home. In addition, Denham is a long time Valley farmer and owns an almond farm in Atwater that he converted from sweet potatoes.
